In conjunction with the event, the Kids Rock Sidewalk Art Contest will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Courthouse Square. Three categories will be used for judging, with cash prizes awarded. In addition, the Art Rock Bookwalk will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Kahler Terrace at the Courthouse Square. The event is sponsored by the Early Childhood Initiative.

Meanwhile, the HGS Gallery, 208 E. Main St., will host an Artist Flea Market from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. There will be artwork, antiques, vintage items, furniture and more.

On Sunday, the Luverne Area Chamber of Commerce has organized its second "Tales from the Graves" event at Maplewood Cemetery. Offered from 1 to 4 p.m., the event will include eight reenactors who will share stories of those buried in the cemetery.

Featured this year are a Civil War soldier; the founder of the first department store in southwest Minnesota; stories of Mae Hinkly and Eva Luverne Hawes; former county auditor John Kelly, who froze to death after wandering outside in cold weather; Ida Oakland, who was kidnapped by a cult in the early 1900s; and a tragic tale of a young family -- the husband died a year after marriage, his wife died a year later, and their child died two years after that.

"We have some interesting characters," said Luverne Area Chamber Director Jane Wildung-Lanphere.

Three Green Earth Players members, along with members of the Rock County Historical Society and student volunteers, will perform the reenactments. A pie and ice cream social will accompany the event.

People are asked to park at the cemetery, and golf carts will be provided for those who would like transportation between reenactments.
