School board elections take place in Lyon, Osceola counties

School elections took place Tuesday night in Lyon and Osceola counties in northwest Iowa.

In Lyon County, there was one contested race -- for Central Lyon Director at Large. Scott Postma earned 192 votes (51.20 percent) in edging Chet De Jong (182 votes, 48.53 percent). Also winning election to director posts in unopposed races were Troy Bauder (West Lyon District 1), Kyle Knobloch (West Lyon District 2), Wade Netten (George Little Rock District 2), Ryan Klingenberg (George Little Rock District 3), Scott Lee (West Lyon District 5) and Adam Besaw (Northwest Iowa Community College District 5). A NICC public measure for tax levy continuation passed, with 356 votes in favor and 147 against.

In Osceola County, Tasha Bos picked up 580 votes to win election as a District 1 member of the Sibley-Ocheyedan school board. Kyle Grimes (425 votes) and Bradd Dreessen (251) competed in District 2, and Susie Bormann had 588 District 3 votes compared to 33 for Jodi Nasers. Tracy Van Diepen (399 votes) finished ahead of Chris Kruger (173) and LeRoy Eggink (102) in District 4, while Daniel Berkland (441 votes) outpolled Diane Langstraat (314) in District 5. A Sibley-Ocheyedan penny sales tax measure that allows the district to use 1-cent sales tax funds to pay for construction and renovation projects, including the purchase or lease of land and buildings. passed by a count of 539-114. A measure allowing Northwest Iowa Community College to continue a levy not to exceed 20.4 cents per $1,000 of assessed value for an additional 10 years passed, 437-212.
