Adrian business receives SWIF assistance
HUTCHINSON — Adrian Care Center, Inc., owned by James and Kathleen Birchem, recently received loan assistance from the Southwest Initiative Foundation’s (SWIF) Business Finance loan program for the purpose of upgrading fixtures in the clinic as well as upgrading resident rooms and common areas in Adrian.
Adrian Care Center, Inc. is a 30-bed Skilled Nursing Facility and is part of a Health Care Campus located in Adrian. The property and operations of Adrian Care Center and the Adrian Clinic were acquired by the present owners, James and Kathleen Birchem, in October 2011.
“We are pleased to improve this home for our residents and make it more energy efficient,” said Jim Birchem. “We greatly appreciate the local support of the City of Adrian, Adrian State Bank, Southwest Regional Development Commission and Southwest Initiative Foundation. Without the support of all these entities working together to make this loan possible, it would not have happened. Thank you to all as we continue to provide for the seniors of our communities.”
SWIF assisted with the funding needed for the replacement of the boiler system, fixing windows and lighting, and upgrading of 22 resident rooms and common area improvements.
Business Finance and other loan programs have been a key function of SWIF since its inception as a way to support communities and businesses throughout southwest Minnesota. In 2001, microlending was also added to existing programs as a tool to support small businesses and people looking for self-employment opportunities by providing market-rate loans.
