The Public Utilities Commission approved a draft site permit for the project on Dec. 19.

The proposed project is expected to comprise up to 62 wind turbines on 29,500 acres in Murray and Pipestone counties. The turbines will range from 1.7 to 3.2 megawatt (MW), up to a total of 105 MW.

Related facilities would include transmission lines, a project substation, collector and feeder lines, access roads, meteorological towers, and an operations and maintenance building.

Citizens will have an opportunity at the hearing to offer either oral or written comments about the project. There will also be a comment period; comments about the draft site permit may be submitted through Jan. 28.

Staff from the Public Utilities Commission, Department of Commerce and Stoneray Power Partners will be available to answer questions about the project and process during the Jan. 14 hearing.

Judge Cochran, of the Minnesota Office of Administrative Hearings, will gather the comments and information at the public hearing and during the comment period, which will be used to write a report for the Commission.

The report will include findings, conclusions and recommendations about the site proposed for this project. It will also include a summary of the public comments provided at the hearing.

After receiving the report, the commission will make final decisions on this project at a separate meeting expected by June 2014.
