WORTHINGTON — Love INC (In the Name of Christ) of Worthington will host a summer celebration fundraiser from 4-6 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Park.

A meal consisting of authentic guiso (shredded pork with chili sauce), flour tortillas, beans, rice and tres leches (three milk) cake will be served.

“Anytime we do a fundraising event, we want it to be dual-purpose,” said Brian Frodermann, Love INC executive director. “With this one, we are kind of using it to just to bridge cultures or build connections between cultures in the community.”

Worthington’s Love INC is a partnership of 19 churches in the community with a goal of helping people in need. The organization currently runs a helpline to direct callers to organizations that are able to assist them with their needs. The group has maintained the helpline for the past four years.

After identifying gaps in area services, the group has begun “gap ministries” in order to fulfill unmet needs. Love INC currently supports nine ministries, ranging from offering rides to a support group for widows.

Saturday’s fundraiser will help support a series of educational and skills-based classes the organization plans to offer in the fall.

Frodermann offered insight into what the classes will entail: “The first three we are starting this fall (are) one on basic budgeting/financial management, one on grief (and) working through grief, (and) the third one is kind of a life skills goal-setting type of course, helping people see how God has gifted them — see them as more of the solution to their own situation and empower them in the process.”

In addition to food, the event will include children’s activities and live worship music in both English and Spanish. In case of rain, the event will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
