ADRIAN — On Maine Avenue in Adrian, a new business offers a trip back in time through its wide variety of antiques, primitives and collectibles. Owner Carrie Domeyer has taken her love for the rustic and turned it into a thriving business, with the help of her boyfriend Kyle Strampe and his parents.

Hoarder’s Haven is housed in the former archery club. Domeyer said when the group decided to sell the property she jumped on the opportunity.

“I wanted to do an antique store for a long time, but Adrian doesn’t ever have anything for sale,” Domeyer began. “I didn’t want to do it out of the house. I don’t like that. So when this came up, it was perfect.”

Domeyer has always had a love for antiques.

“The rusty kind of stuff is what I am into. The gas station stuff, I like. I collect that stuff,” Domeyer shared.

In addition to gas station memorabilia, Domeyer also collects items related to her hometown of Adrian. She attributes part of her attraction to antiques to the quality of items made in years gone by.

Getting the store open was a labor of love. Domeyer spent many late nights getting items ready for sale and moving them into the storefront with help from Strampe and his family. Domeyer expressed how appreciative she was for the help. She noted Strampe’s mother, Linda, was particularly encouraging, and helped her wash glassware for the store for 14 hours one day in preparation for her opening.

In addition to selling items she acquires, Domeyer brokers the sale of items for others online or through consignment as space permits.

Hoarder’s Haven is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Wednesdays, the store is open until 8 p.m.
