One arrested after latest crash in roundabout
WORTHINGTON — The latest incident at the Minnesota 60 and Interstate 90 roundabout in Worthington has resulted in the arrest of a Worthington man.
Jose Quintero Jr., 42, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a gross misdemeanor; DWI of .08 or more within two hours of driving, a gross misdemeanor; and driving after revocation, a misdemeanor. The charges stem from an early Sunday morning crash in which Quintero allegedly drove through the center of the roundabout after drinking.
According to the criminal complaint, witnesses told law enforcement that they first saw the vehicle Quintero was driving around the Windom area. After they saw Quintero accelerate straight through the roundabout, his minivan caught fire, and witnesses added that Quintero left the scene on foot to a nearby gas station.
Worthington police officers located Quintero at the gas station, and he admitted to being the driver of the vehicle after consuming alcohol. The officers returned to the scene, where the minivan sat with severe damage and a small fire underneath.
A review of the scene made officers believe Quintero drove the van directly through the middle of the roundabout, knocking down several trees and pulling bushes out of the ground.
A preliminary breath test showed Quintero having a .17 percent blood alcohol content.
Quintero, having complained of right wrist pain, was taken to the Sanford Worthington Medical Center emergency Room.
A review of Quintero’s record shows a previous DWI conviction in June in Nobles County.
Conditional bail was set at $1,500 and unconditional bail at $12,000.
Quintero’s initial appearance in Nobles County District Court is scheduled for Jan. 2.
