Specs and Contacts now open in Worthington
WORTHINGTON -- The eyes have it at Specs and Contacts, Worthington's newest location for eye examinations, contacts and designer glasses.
"We've got a wide variety of designer frames, and we have a ton of sunglasses," said optometrist Stephanie Thier, owner of Specs and Contacts.
Thier decided to become an optometrist when she was in second grade.
She graduated from Pierre High School, S.D., in 1994, the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, S.D., in 1998, and the Illinois College of Optometry, Chicago, Ill., in 2002. Thier completed internships in Michigan, Alaska, South Dakota and Illinois.
Thier lives near Rushmore with her husband, Ryan, a cattle farmer, and two children, Ryker, 20 months, and Lucy, 6 months.
Thier decided to open her own business while attending optometry school.
To get her rented space in Suite 1 of 1607 North McMillan St. ready for business, Thier hired an interior decorator, painted, replaced the flooring and ordered custom-made displays for frames and cabinets.
"We are a full-service optometry clinic," Thier said, noting she and her opticians will offer frame and contact lens evaluations, emergency services for urgent eye issues, frame and contact lens fitting and eye and contact examinations.
Thier and opticians Nancie Larson and Melissa Remme can test for cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, high blood pressure and macular degeneration.
The business' look is designed to reflect its status as a small, warm, family-friendly practice with a personal touch.
"I love everything about this," Thier said. "I love the people, the place, the décor, the environment and the location."
Walk-ins are encouraged at Specs and Contacts, which is located next to H & R Block and across from Empowered Fitness at 1607 North McMillan St.; phone 727-EYES.
Specs and Contacts is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, as well as by appointment.
