Brown's Shoe Fit Co. changes hands

Justine Wettschreck/Daily Globe New Brown's Shot Fit Co. owner/manager Ryan Robinson is pleased to be in the Worthington location.

WORTHINGTON -- It has been little more than a week since Ryan Robinson became the owner/manager of downtown Worthington's Brown Shoe Fit Co., but he is already well into taking stock of what is there and planning to make a change or two.

"I really would like to add more work boots," Robinson explained. "The store that I came from carried a lot of work boots and I think there is a real market out there."

The Worthington store will continue to carry men's shoes and ladies footwear, and has recently begun carrying kids' shoes such as Nike and New Balance. They will also continue carrying the line of Smartwool socks, which are popular, Robinson said.

Originally from Cherokee, Iowa, Robinson was the assistant manager at the Brown's Shoe in Mason City, Iowa for two years and knew at some point he would have his own store. When owner/managers did some shifting around, the Worthington store became available.

"It worked out great because it's not far from where I grew up," Robinson said. "My family is still there."

He has yet to move into a home in Worthington, and is waiting for his house to sell in Mason City before he buys locally.
