BRDTF executes search warrants in Worthington

Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at Worthington KFC Wednesday.

WORTHINGTON -- As part of an ongoing investigation, the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force executed three search warrants Wednesday morning, seizing small quantities of marijuana and cocaine, along with other items.

According to BRDTF Commander Troy Appel, the warrants were executed at an upper level apartment at 1308 Sherwood St., a single family residence at 916 McMillan St. and the KFC restaurant located at 1720 N. Humiston Ave. The task force had received information from sources that illegal drug activity had been occurring at KFC, Appel stated.

As a result of the search warrants, agents located and seized small quantities of marijuana and cocaine, drug paraphernalia and other items. The KFC was barricaded and temporarily shut down during the investigation, but nothing was located or seized at the restaurant. The KFC reopened for business Wednesday afternoon.

Five individuals were arrested at the address on Sherwood Street, two of whom were KFC employees. The five people were taken into custody, but as of Wednesday afternoon, no charging decisions had been made. The five were arrested for fifth-degree controlled substance possession, which carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and or a $10,000 fine.

The Worthington/Nobles Emergency Response Unit, Worthington Police Department and Nobles County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation.
