Worthington man swerves into ditch, ends up arrested
WORTHINGTON — A Worthington man was arrested Sept. 30 after allegedly swerving off the road in a stolen motor vehicle and fleeing on foot.
Christopher Santini Gascot, 23, has been charged with theft — take/drive motor vehicle without consent, a felony; driving while intoxicated, a gross misdemeanor; and possession of a small amount of marijuana, a petty misdemeanor.
The charges stem from a Sept. 30 early morning incident in which Santini Gascot was allegedly traveling on Minnesota 60 near Nobles County 35 without headlights.
According to the criminal complaint, a Worthington police officer began following the vehicle, which then swerved off the road and ran into a sign before coming to a stop in the ditch.
Upon police contact, Santini Gascot fled on foot into the ditch, but later complied.
A preliminary breath test indicated Santini Gascot had a blood alcohol content of .112 percent.
Officers later learned that the vehicle Santini Gascot had been driving was signed as stolen by the owner.
Santini Gascot is being held on a $5,000 bond with conditions. His initial appearance in Nobles County District Court is scheduled for Oct. 17.
