Man pleaded not guilty to criminal sexual conduct charges

WORTHINGTON – A Worthington man facing multiple charges in connection with an alleged domestic assault incident made his initial appearance in Nobles County District Court Tuesday.

Jose Bonilla, 41, pleaded not guilty to third- and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charges during his initial appearance on Tuesday.

Bonilla was arrested Dec. 8 after the victim alleged in the complaint that she was sleeping downstairs in her boyfriend’s bed when she woke up to find someone touching her body and private parts.

She then saw it was not her boyfriend and ran upstairs to alert him that she had been raped.

Her boyfriend then ran downstairs and allegedly found Bonilla hiding in the boiler room, where he held him down until police arrived.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim met police at the front door of the residence upon their arrival and was emotionally upset and crying.

Police were escorted to a lower level of the home, where they found the victim’s boyfriend sitting on top of Bonilla.

When officers assisted him to his feet, they noticed his pants were unzipped and that he smelled strongly of alcohol.

Bonilla is currently in custody at Nobles County Jail. A trial date is pending.
