Column: District's kindergarten roundup is Monday

District 518

WORTHINGTON -- A time to experience what kindergarten at Prairie Elementary is like will be on Monday at Kindergarten Round-Up.

In order to accommodate parents' schedules, we will have three sessions. Please feel free to select the one that works best for you. Sessions will be in the morning from 8:30-10 a.m., early afternoon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and an evening session from 5 to 6 p.m. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to choice of sessions to turn in your paperwork.

If you are in need of transportation, please call Head Start at 376-4195. They will assist you in getting to the session that works best with your schedule.

We encourage you to bring your future kindergartener with you to Round Up. Upon completion, your child will receive a "Goodie Bag" containing items that have been donated by District 518.

The sessions will have a bead activity furnished by Head Start, a story time, a bus ride and a sing-a-long for children. An informational meeting for the parents will include registration of student, general information, program information, Special Education information, health information, busing rules and a tour of the school.

Registration information was distributed through the Daycare Centers or pre-schools that your child attends. Those children who do not attend a preschool or daycare centers had the registration packets mailed to their home prior to March 8.

For anyone who does not receive the information and has a child that must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2013 to be eligible to start kindergarten, please contact Prairie Elementary at 727-1250 for assistance in registering your child and ask for Jeanette Varuska.

Spanish and Karen interpreters will be available for all the sessions.

We hope you can join us for this fun filled experience. However, if it does not work for your schedule, please feel free to drop off the registration materials in our office at Prairie Elementary during the school day.

Jeanette Varuska is District 518's title I coordinator.
