‘Best of The Globe 2018' now underway

Commencement celebrations begin tonight in Worthington

WORTHINGTON — Nearly 200 young adults will turn tassels to the next chapter of their lives this week, during the Worthington Area Learning Center and Worthington High School commencement ceremonies.

As of Tuesday, 175 WHS seniors and 19 ALC seniors were slated to graduate.

The WHS graduate candidates and a selection of ALC students will walk in line with “Pomp and Circumstance” at 7 p.m. Friday in the WHS gymnasium.

Commencement addresses will be given by students Bailey Kruse and Theodora Oputa. Tucker Besel, a WHS science teacher, will be the featured teacher guest speaker.

The WHS Trojan Band and WHS Choir will perform musical selections.

The ALC graduation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday in the ALC Gymnasium. Students Emely Gonzalez Sanchez, Andrea Nunez, Thein Tun, Teresa Bravo, Way Naing and Herber Mejia will all speak. ALC graduates’ instructors will also say a few words about each student.

A baccalaureate service planned and led by seniors will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Seniors will lead the service with worship, readings and music.

All ceremonies are free and open to the public.
