WORTHINGTON — Kendrick Bickett, Worthington, was one of three Minnesota 4-H and FFA members to be awarded a $4,000 scholarship from the Minnesota Livestock Breeders’ Association during the Minnesota State Fair.
Participants are selected based on leadership experience and personal growth achievements. Additionally the scholarship rewards academic excellence and outstanding livestock production.
The MLBA is awarded $62,000 in scholarships to 40 youths this year. In addition to the $4,000 scholarships, there were 13 $2,000 scholarships and 24 $1,000 scholarships presented.
“The support from the greater livestock community is phenomenal and very appreciated,” said Steve Pooch, MLBA Secretary. Since the inception of the scholarship program there have been 347 scholarships given, totaling $461,000.
The funds for the scholarships come from a combination of donations from livestock industry leaders and supporters, matched by MLBA purple ribbon auction proceeds.
