Former Sanford president in Fargo dies unexpectedly
FARGO — Dennis Millirons, who served as president of Sanford Medical Center in Fargo for four years, has died at age 66 in Texas.
Millirons, who had more than 40 years of experience in hospital administration, was named president of Sanford Medical Center when Fargo-based MeritCare merged with Sanford Health, based in Sioux Falls, S.D., in November 2009.
He died in The Hills, Texas, on Monday, April 2, according to his obituary, which said his death was "sudden and unexpected."
Nate White, a Sanford executive vice president, credited Millirons with playing a key role in a transitional time.
"We are saddened to hear of the passing of Dennis Millirons," White said. "Dennis was instrumental during some of Sanford's biggest changes in the last decade. He was with us through the merger of MeritCare and Sanford in 2009 and through the beginning stages of the construction of our new Sanford Medical Center. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family during this difficult time."
Before joining Sanford, Millirons was CEO of Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Ill. After leaving Sanford, Millirons was interim president of Rapid City (S.D.) Regional Hospital.
Millirons' survivors include his wife of 41 years, Phyllis, their daughter, Kathryn, and two granddaughters.
