The private liberal arts school has changed its name to University of Jamestown, officials announced Wednesday.

The school hopes the new name will better represent its offerings at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels and boost enrollment for international students.

“Internationally, the term ‘college’ is often associated with secondary level education,” Robert Badal, the school’s president, said in a release. “By adopting the university name, we are opening doors that will support our enrollment goals.”

The school hopes to increase international student enrollment by 5 percent, according to the release.

Fall 2013 enrollment is expected to reach a five-year high with a 19 percent increase in freshmen over last year and a 6.7 percent increase in total students.

The school’s Board of Trustees voted in favor of the name change this spring after discussions with alumni and other stakeholders.
