Fulda man sentenced to a year in jail following undercover sting
WORTHINGTON — A Fulda man will serve one year in jail on a third-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct charge related to a February 2017 undercover sting.
Michael Bartels, 31, received a stay of imposition on the felony-level charge filed after driving to Worthington to presumably engage in a sexual act with whom he believed to be a 14-year-old. The February sting was part of an undercover operation by the Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Bartels was also placed on a five-year supervised probation term. Four other charges were dismissed.
As part of the terms of probation, Bartels is required to register as a predatory offender and prohibited from having contact with minors younger than 18 years old, using social common social media sites and from possessing internet-capable devices void of use-monitoring software.
If compliant with the terms of probation, Bartels can avoid a felony-level conviction.
