Edeth Ermo Jenkins
Edeth Ermo Jenkins, age 100, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN.
Born on October 2, 1916, in Round Lake, MN, she was the daughter of Edward Washington and Kathryn Marie (Ferdinandt) Jenkins. She was two years old when her parents moved to Worthington. Edeth graduated from Worthington High School in 1934. She attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, where she graduated in 1942 with a BA Degree with a major in Christian Education. This would have been her 75th college reunion. She served as a Pastor's Assistant for nine years at the Wheaton Bible Church.
Edeth moved to California in 1951 where she continued her ministry serving as Director of Christian Education at several churches including the Community Baptist Church in Hermosa Beach, Scott Memorial Baptist Church in San Diego, Arcadia Union Church, and Grace Church of Santa Barbara. She was one of the founders of the Christian Worker's Service Bureau, producer of youth materials, and wrote youth materials. For two summers, she directed Junior Camps at Camp Palomor. Throughout the years, Edeth taught at numerous Teacher Training Seminars in the Southern California area. She also worked on a part-time basis as a teacher at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, was the California consultant for Scriptures Press of Wheaton, IL, and Christian Education Staff Member at the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles, CA and the First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton, CA. She completed her career in the Development Office at Biola University in La Mirada, CA. She also started their Mother's Day Out Program. Edeth returned to Minnesota in the early 1990's to be closer to her family.
Edeth is survived by a sister, Floretta Bowman of Vero Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Gladys Shade, Belda Moret, Kenneth Jenkins, and Lee Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., at the Lakeside Baptist Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Dave Mosher officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Casket bearers will be Jim Jenkins, Jeff Jenkins, Joel Jenkins, Mark Walker, Krayton Stenzel, LeeAnn Stenzel, and Rebekah Fineday. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Melvin Howell, Peter Howell, Jonathan Howell, Timothy Howell, Elliot Howell, David Shade, Lance Walker, and Edward Moret. Burial will be held in the Worthington Cemetery.
