John Luinenburg, the son of Henry and Marie (Bosch) Luinenburg, was born on June 25, 1923 in Sibley, Iowa. He grew up in the Brewster area. John was united in marriage to Leona Dykstra, on the Dykstra farm, on August 6, 1945 after he had entered the United States Army. After he was discharged, they moved to Worthington and he worked for Hudson Brothers Construction. They began farming in 1953 in the Reading area. They enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. John also enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. John and Leona were faithful followers of the Reformed faith. John served as a deacon and elder at the Christian Reformed Church. John passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Sanford Worthington Medical Center.
John is survived by one son and three daughters, John R. (Pat) Luinenburg of Reading, MN, Barb (Vern) Uit de Flesch of Worthington, MN, Jan (Duane) Bajema of Sioux Center, IA and Beth (Mark) Raveling of Spicer, MN. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Hofstee and Grace Dykema, and one brother, Marvin Luinenburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at the American Reformed Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Tim Truesdell officiating. Pall bearers will be John Hovland, Dave Meyer, Brian VanHorssen, Tim Bajema, John Luinenburg, Justin Luinenburg, Jim Mitteness, and Deric Peterson. Burial, with military rites, will be held in the Worthington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Worthington Christian School.
