On Friday, August 31, 2018, Jeffrey Richard Johnson (54) passed away following an extended battle with cancer. Jeff was born on February 18, 1964 in Worthington, MN to James and Joanne (Nelson) Johnson. Jeff graduated from Worthington High School (1982) and from Northwestern College, Orange City, IA (1986) with a B.A. degree in Business Administration. Jeff joined his parents in business at Johnson Jewelry, Inc. where he worked for 32 years. On March 18, 1989, Jeff married Sharon (Olson) Johnson. They raised three sons: Jared, Micah and Matthias.
Jeff highly valued his Christian faith and it influenced every aspect of his life. He was a member and worshiped at Indian Lake Baptist Church. He served on various boards there and co-led the youth ministry program with Sharon for 8 years.
Jeff lived life to the fullest. He pursued many hobbies including sports, music and travel. Some of his pastimes included snowmobiling, skiing, tennis, golf, running, bicycling, disc golf, and playing in the Amazing Worthington City Band. Jeff was also an avid fan of Minnesota sports teams.
Throughout his life, Jeff loved to travel, explore and learn. He planned annual family road trips throughout the United States. Additionally, Jeff was passionate about community engagement and service. He served on the boards of Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce, Worthington Area YMCA, and United Way of Nobles County. He was a member of Worthington Optimists, Worthington Noon Kiwanis, Okabena Bay Area Striders, and the Retail Jewelers Organization.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father James Johnson; his grandparents, Harold and Fanchon (Fauskee) Johnson and Walter and Vivian (Johnson) Nelson; and an aunt, LaVonne (Johnson) Lillie. He is survived by his wife Sharon; three sons, Jared, Micah, and Matthias; his mother Joanne; his sister Kimberly (Richard) Kooistra; his niece Jasmine (Chris) White; her children Jacie and Jaxson and many extended family members.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 7, 3-7 p.m. at Worthington Christian Church, 1501 N. Douglas, Worthington, MN. The memorial service will be on Saturday, September 8 at 11 am at Worthington Christian Church with Pastor Jonathan Larson officiating. A private burial service will be held at another time in Indian Lake Baptist Church Cemetery. Benson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Jeff supported many charitable organizations. The family suggests that memorials may be given to Worthington Area Foundation, United Way of Nobles County, or Indian Lake Baptist Church.
