Letter: Winter Guard among new experiences

By Lars Opaczek, Crailsheim exchange student to Worthington

Hello Worthington,

My last month here was pretty exciting. First I joined the Winter Guard (a competition of Color Guards from different marching bands). I got to hang out with a lot of my friends on Saturdays, and I also got to travel to the Twin Cities for some competitions. It was a lot of fun and I’m really thankful to Mr. Loy, who gave me this great opportunity.

Track practice started this month, too, and I’m really excited for my first meet today. It’s an indoor meet in Mankato, and I’ll try myself out in 4 competitions: 200, 4x200, 4x400 and high jump. Because of wrestling, I was in a perfect shape to start track practice.

I enjoy going outside to run, and we had some nice days the last weeks. I want to thank Center Sports, the Eagles and the Optimist Club for my Trojan letter jacket. It will be a great reminder of the wonderful year I had here in Worthington.

I also took my senior pictures two weeks ago. It was a lot of fun for me and also something completely new. In Germany we don’t have something like senior pictures, and I’m really happy that I could take them here. Thanks to Rick Stewart for making it so much fun.

At the end of February Worthington chose their new exchange student who will go back with me to Germany, and I want to congratulate Jessica Velasquez Herrera. It’s a great opportunity for her, and I think she’ll enjoy the German culture and school.

For the next months I’m looking forward to prom and also to my graduation.
