Editorial: Consider United Way donation

It's that time of year again -- the United Way of Nobles County has begun its fundraising drive for 2013.

This year, the organization is aiming to reach a goal of $150,000. As usual, pledge cards are being distributed at businesses and other places of employment around the region.

One key United Way of Nobles County fundraiser comes today, when it hosts a tailgate party starting at 5:30 p.m. -- prior to the start of the Worthington Trojans-Luverne Cardinals football game -- at Trojan Field. A Whopper Jr., fries and drink meal from Worthington's Burger King will be sold, with proceeds going to the United Way.

And, in turn, those proceeds end up being distributed among 26 agencies that provide service to Nobles County residents. Many of these agencies rely heavily on United Way of Nobles County to fill a critical piece of their budgeting puzzle. Giving to United Way is a simple way to help fulfill many needs of many people all around us.

We should note that we were pleased to see the Nobles County Board of Commissioners vote Tuesday to allow for the distribution of pledge cards, something that hasn't been permitted in the past. Combine the effort with the cards along with the tailgate party and the planned Nov. 7 telethon at Worthington High School, and we hope our county's United Way chapter will be pointed toward a strong fundraising year.
