Letter: Wrestling was great; now it's on to track

By Lars Opaczek, Crailsheim exchange student to Worthington

Hello Worthington! Since my last letter there weren’t a lot of changes for me, but one of them is that wrestling season is over now. I had a great time with my friends and coaches while wrestling, and I think I didn’t do too bad. A special thank you goes out to my sports and gym coaches who keep me fit and busy over the whole year and also helped me to the best shape of my life. I also wanted to wish good luck to my teammates who competed in the individual state tournament.

At first I wasn’t planning to go out for a spring sport, but a few of my friends and coaches said I really should. So I decided to try track, which starts on the 10th of March.

The American school system is really enjoyable to me because it’s just so different. In Germany you don’t have the privilege to create your own schedule, and the classes don’t change after six to eight weeks. They stay the same over the whole year and the tests are based on all the stuff you did in this year, so they get quite hard over there.

For the last weeks I was watching the Olympics with my guest family. It was a lot of fun, and I was cheering for the Germans. I think they didn’t do too bad for the size of our country. They had pretty good weather in Sochi, close to 70 degrees and in Crailsheim about 50 — how nice it would be to get some warmer weather here in Worthington.
