Letter: Worthington Early Risers celebrate fundraiser

The members of Early Risers Kiwanis want to thank all students and faculty, as well as K-Kids Advisors Mr. Cory VanBriesen and Mr. Josh Langseth, on an outstanding fundraiser.

The students raised a “record” of more than $5,300 in their “Pennies for Patients” fund. The proceeds are donated for childhood leukemia and lymphoma research.

The event was celebrated with teachers and staff, volunteering for pies in the face and students giving special haircuts to Mr. Dingman (assistant principal) and Mr. Rich Ackerman (custodian). The students also collected 636 pounds of food, which was donated to the Manna Food Pantry. Way to go, students!

On May 3 the Early Risers will be hosting the Community Prayer Breakfast, to take place at the American Reformed Church, 1720 N. Burlington Ave. starting at 8 a.m. Tickets may be purchased at Ax Photo, Johnson Eye Clinic, the Chamber of Commerce or any Early Riser Kiwanis member.

The guest speaker will be Sandy Jersted of Sioux Falls, S.D. She will share some of her insights in coaching, teaching, politics and writing. Sandy has published a book that includes some of her husband’s sermons, including personal comments.

Early Risers meet each Thursday morning at 6:45 a.m. at Ben Lee’s. We invite and welcome you to come join us for fun, fellowship and interesting programs.
