PREP HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Cardinals sweep Trojans in hockey doubleheader

REDWOOD FALLS -- Redwood Valley's boys' hockey team scored on a penalty shot late in the third period to tie the score and eventually scored the winner with 41 seconds remaining in overtime Tuesday night to earn a 5-4 victory over Worthington.

Redwood Valley was awarded a penalty shot after a Worthington player threw the puck out of the crease.

Tyler Obermoller scored the first two goals for Worthington, with the second assisted by Taylor Wiener, and Mitch Jensen scored on assists from Cody Reese and Jake Smith to give the Trojans a 3-2 lead in the second period.

Mitch Benson scored the go-ahead goal, but Worthington was unable to fend off Redwood Valley's rally.

Kyle Hain made 41 saves in goal for the Trojans.

REDWOOD FALLS -- Worthington's recorded a season-high 33 shots on goal but scored just once in a four-goal loss to Redwood Valley.

"They played really well -- it probably was the best they've played all season," said Worthington assistant coach Mark Raboin. "We just couldn't get any to go in; it was just one of those nights."

It was the first time this season the Trojans outshot their opponent.

Redwood Valley had 29 shots on goal.

Angela Bui scored Worthington's lone goal on an assist from Lexi Standafer in the second period.

Taylor Baumhoefner made 24 saves in goal for Worthington (0-16), which will travel to face Morris/Benson Area on Saturday.

Marshall 1, Windom Area 0

MARSHALL -- Windom Area outshot Marshall 47-21; however, none of the 47 shots made it past goalie Sarah Schneekloth as the Tigers shut out the Eagles.

Brooklyn Drahota made 20 saves for Windom, but allowed a third-period goal to Brittney Dwire.

The Eagles had 12 shots in the first period, 16 in the second and 19 more in the final period, and were 0-3 on power play opportunities.
