Robinson's single seals victory for Rebels (softball wrap-up)

SLAYTON -- Maddy Robinson's three-run single to right-center in the bottom of the sixth Tuesday afternoon lifted the Murray County Central Rebels to an exciting 8-7 victory over Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin in Red Rock Conference softball action.

MCC (2-1, 3-3) had a 5-0 lead before ML/B-O tied the game with a five-run fifth inning and then took a 7-5 lead with two runs in the top of the sixth.

MCC, though, loaded the bases in the sixth before Robinson's single scored all three runners and gave the Rebels an 8-7 lead.

Becky Blomendaal hurled a complete game for MCC, striking out five and walking four.

Tara Onken smacked a two-run home run in the third inning for MCC, while Elissa Reinsma had a single, walked twice and scored three runs.

Brittany Wenner cracked a solo home run in the sixth inning and also tossed six innings for ML/B-O (0-3, 1-7), walking five and striking out one batter.

Courtney Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double, and Megan Svalland was 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple for the Wolverines.

MCC hosts T-M-B Thursday.

Adrian Area 9, SWU 0

BREWSTER -- Freshman Karli Meyer whirled a four-hit shutout and drove in five runs with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate, leading Adrian Area (3-1) to a Red Rock Conference softball victory over Southwestern United.

Meyer smacked a two-run double in the first inning, lifted a two-run homer over the left field fence in the third and -- after dropping in a single in the fifth -- cracked an RBI double in the seventh.

In the circle, Meyer gave up just four walks, while striking out seven Wildcats.

Melissa Weidert and Sam Lynn each had two hits for the Dragons, who did not have a fielding error in the game.

Weidert and Brooke Kramer both rapped two-run doubles to help AA's offense.

Kasey McNab twirled a complete game for SWU, striking out a total of 12 batters, while allowing only three walks. She struck out two Dragons in five of the seven innings and pitched four scoreless frames.

McNab (sixth inning double), Anna Obermoller, Beth Moshier and Christine Kazemba each had hits for the Wildcats (0-9).

RRC/W-WG 8, Edgerton 0

SANBORN -- Audra Schmidt hurled a four-hit shutout against the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen, as the Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Falcons earned another Red Rock Conference victory.

Schmidt (5-0) had nine strikeouts and no walks in a complete-game performance, setting the Flying Dutchmen down in order in five of the seven innings.

Edgerton's Dulci Boyum smacked a two-out triple in the first, but the Flying Dutchmen didn't get another hit until the sixth frame when Katie Hadler, Alyson Drooger and Sammi Vanden Bosch each singled.

Hadler tossed a complete game for the Flying Dutchmen, striking out four, walking one and allowing five earned runs.

Emily Neperman was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to lead the RRC/W-WG offense. Jenny Hoffman was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, while Kelly Shaner was 1-for-4 with a trio of runs driven in.

RRC/W-WG (4-0, 5-1) hosts Springfield Thursday.

LUVERNE -- Scoring four runs or more in four separate innings and getting two more pitching gems, the Pipestone Area Arrows earned a pair of nine-run Southwest Conference victories over the Luverne Cardinals.

Bailey Bouman (14 strikeouts, two walks in the opener) and Chelsey Evans (eight strikeouts, one walk in the nightcap) each twirled a complete game for the Arrows (5-1, 7-1).

Kayla Rowden (double, triple) and Brooke Henderson (single, double) were each 2-for-4 in the first game for PA.

Three Cardinals -- Paige Olson, Courtney Fodness and Kelsey Wessels -- had a pair of hits in the opener.

Kelsey Theesfeld struck out six and walked four in seven innings for Luverne (2-4, 3-5).

Bouman ripped a pair of triples to lead the Arrow offense in the second game.

Kat Dahl had the only two hits for Luverne, cracking a single in both the fourth and sixth innings.

Mikki Fitzer struck out four and walked six in six innings for the Cardinals, who host a doubleheader with Adrian Thursday.
