Dragons score an early nine, beat Rebels, 13-3 (baseball wrap-up)

SLAYTON -- Scoring nine runs in the first two innings Thursday, the Adrian Dragons claimed a key Red Rock Conference baseball victory by defeating Murray County Central 13-3 in five innings.

Ben Suedkamp led Adrian's 13-hit offense with a 4-for-4 day that included two doubles and four RBIs. Adam Diekmann was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Brett Nowotny (four RBIs), Glen Kruger and Jordon Kontz (two walks) each had two hits for the Dragons (5-0, 9-1).

Diekmann tossed all five innings, striking out six and allowing three runs on five hits and no walks.

MCC's Paul Counter started and pitched 1/3 of an inning before Ben Clarke, Mike Tentinger and Taylor Streff all came on in relief.

Clarke (double) and Counter were each 1-for-3 to lead MCC (3-2, 5-4) at the plate.

Adrian hosts Pipestone Saturday at 1 p.m., while MCC visits T-M-B today.

PA 5, Windom 2, 10 innings

WINDOM -- With two solid pitching performances, the Pipestone Area Arrows and Windom Eagles needed extra innings to decide Thursday's Southwest Conference baseball tilt.

PA's Greg Quist threw all 10 innings, allowing one earned run on six hits while walking five and striking out nine.

His counterpart, Windom's Bryce Grove, matched Quist pitch for pitch. Grove allowed three hits and two earned runs while striking out 14 in nine and two-thirds innings.

Charlie Dunnick threw the final third of an inning for the Eagles (2-4, 4-5).

PA's Brandon Alfson had the game-winning hit for the Arrows (4-1, 5-2) in the 10th inning, while Doug Mead had an RBI triple in the first and Robbie Forde had the other hit for PA.

Grove had an RBI single, while Brett Dumke had a pair of hits. Sam Fischenich had a hit and walked twice.

In what was scheduled for a doubleheader, the second game was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the third inning with the score knotted at 3-all.

Windom will travel to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Tuesday.

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Finishing just before the skies opened and the rain came, Mountain Lake/Butterfield Odin swept Edgerton in a Red Rock Conference baseball doubleheader Thursday.

In the first game, Austin Hopwood delivered a two-out hit in the bottom of the sixth to give the Wolverines (3-3, 4-7) a one-run victory over the Flying Dutchmen.

Matt Strom earned the victory in relief, allowing one hit and striking out two in an inning on the hill.

Ryan Nessler started on the hill, and allowed two earned runs and three hits in five innings.

Kyle Schroeder picked up a save, allowing one hit in the seventh.

DJ Berning (one hit) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs and striking out four in six innings of work.

Schroeder had a pair of doubles, while Steven Herrig had a pair of singles.

In the second game, the Wolverines exploded for 12 hits and 12 runs, while committing just one error in the victory.

Barrett Herrig earned the victory, allowing four runs in three and a third innings, while Jared Bargen finished the game and allowed a lone hit while striking out four.

Brady Vanderwaal suffered the loss, allowing nine runs and striking out four in five-plus innings of work.

Strom had a pair of singles and a pair of RBI, while Brandon Fast had a double and a single. Barrett Herrig drove in a run and singled twice.

Berning led the Flying Dutchmen with two of their three hits.

ML/B-O will host St. James today.

TRACY -- Behind a two-hit complete game from Isaac Dolan, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers defeated previously unbeaten Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in a Camden Conference tilt.

Dolan threw seven innings and allowed just one earned run while walking three and striking out five. The Panther defense did not make an error behind the junior hurler.

Dolan also led the Panthers (4-1, 6-2) with a pair of hits, including a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Eric Lanoue had a pair of hits and a RBI.

David Schmidt, Aaron Frisvold (RBI), John Gervais (two runs) and Brian Schlager (two RBI) each had a hit for T-M-B.

The Panthers will host Murray County Central today with the first pitch slated for 7 p.m.
