Cardinals thump Trojans, 15-3, in five innings

LUVERNE -- The Luverne Cardinals' baseball team continues to set down Southwest Conference opponents with a quickness, defeating the visiting Worthington Trojans, 15-3, in five innings Thursday afternoon.

Luverne starter Adam Ossefoort struck out two and walked two over 3 2/3 innings to earn the victory on the bump. The Cardinals (7-3, 10-5) gave up no earned runs, and Taylor Van Santen picked up the save -- going 1 1/3 innings.

Joe Ahrens suffered the loss for the Trojans (4-4, 5-5), allowing seven runs on five hits, while striking out one and walking four over two innings.

Zach Olson went 4-for-4 with two triples, two home runs and eight RBI on the day for the Cardinals. Zack Clark was 1-for-2 with three runs scored, while Brent Dinger had a home run and Phil Paquette smacked a triple.

Ahrens had a single and a double for the Trojans.

JACKSON -- The Eagles' Bryce Grove gave up three hits, while striking out nine and walking one to shut out the host Huskies Thursday afternoon in a Southwest Conference baseball tilt.

Pat Rients suffered the loss for the Huskies (4-5, 6-6).

Sam Fischenich, Brett Dumke (double) and Colin Tritz each had a pair of hits for the Eagles (4-4, 6-5).

The Eagles will attempt to finish their game with the Pipestone Area Arrows today, while JCC hosts RRC/W-WG.

HERON LAKE -- Rebel starter Justin Reinsma struck out nine and walked two in leading Murray County Central past the host Southwestern United Wildcats Thursday afternoon in a Red Rock Conference baseball tilt.

Reinsma wasn't charged for either Wildcat run in earning the victory.

James Anderson suffered the loss for the Wildcats (4-3, 4-7), allowing two earned runs on four hits. Anderson also struck out nine and walked no one in a complete-game effort.

Eric Wieneke was 2-for-4 on the day for the Rebels (4-2, 5-6), including an RBI double and two runs scored. Paul Counter had an RBI for MCC.

Anderson went 1-for-1 at the plate with a double, while William Cranston was 1-for-2 with an RBI double. Tyler Timko also had an RBI for the Wildcats.

SWU hosts Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove today, while MCC is scheduled to visit Adrian on Monday.

Adrian 10, Edgerton 0 (5 innings)

ADRIAN -- Adam Diekmann threw a one-hitter to lead the Dragons past the visiting Flying Dutchmen in a Red Rock Conference baseball clash.

Diekmann struck out four and walked three over five innings to earn the victory.

Pat Kleinjan suffered the loss for Edgerton (1-6, 2-10), allowing seven runs on seven hits while striking out one and walking four in two innings of work.

Jordon Kontz was 3-for-4 at the plate for Adrian (6-1, 11-2), including a pair of doubles and four RBI. Tanner Loosbrock (2 RBI) also was 3-for-4, while Brett Nowotny wnet 2-for-4. Glen Kruger was 1-for-4 with a double.

Marty VanPeursem was 1-for-2 for the Flying Dutchmen.

The Dragons will play in the Windom tournament on Saturday, while the Flying Dutchmen host Minneota today.

WESTBROOK -- Kyle Schroeder pitched six solid innings and came back for more, finishing off the seventh to lift the Wolverines past the host Falcons Thursday afternoon in a Red Rock Conference baseball contest.

Brian Benedict suffered the loss for RRC/W-WG, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits while striking out four and walking five. Benedict threw eight wild pitches in the game.

Jared Bargen led the Wolverines at the plate, going 3-for-4 on the day with three runs scored. Brandon fast, Barrett herrig and Schroeder each had two hits for the game.

Shane Schoborg was 2-for-2 for the Falcons.

RRC/W-WG visits SWU today, while ML/B-O hosts Wabasso on Saturday.
