Hadler throws no-hitter as Edgerton defeats SWU (softball wrap-up)

EDGERTON -- Katie Hadler twirled a five-inning no-hitter Monday, as the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen earned a 12-2 victory over Southwestern United in Red Rock Conference softball action.

Hadler fanned nine batters and issued seven walks, including five in the third inning when the Wildcats scored a pair of runs.

Hailey Van Kley drove in three runs and went 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple to lead Edgerton at the plate.

Hadler was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Sammi Vanden Bosch also had a pair of hits for Edgerton (4-3, 6-9).

Kasey McNab tossed a complete game for SWU, picking up a trio of strikeouts.

Anna Obermoller and Ceilia Schmitz each scored a run, and Karen Schmitz drew a pair of walks for the Wildcats (1-7, 2-14).

Edgerton hosts RRC/W-WG today, while SWU plays Adrian Area at Ellsworth.

RRC/W-WG 10, MCC 8 (8 innings)

SLAYTON -- Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove took a one-game lead in the Red Rock Conference standings with an extra-inning victory over Murray County Central.

Abby Halter led off the eighth with a triple, and the Falcons went up by three runs and held on for the victory.

Audra Schmidt pitched a complete game, allowing eight runs on 14 hits and three walks. She had nine strikeouts.

Jenny Hoffman had three hits and scored four runs for the Falcons (7-1, 8-2).

Maddy Robinson also tossed a complete game for MCC, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and six walks. She had three strikeouts.

Robinson and Tara Onken each had three hits for MCC (6-2, 7-4), while Kate Robinson and Elissa Reinsma each had two hits. Lydia Mesner tied the game at 7 with an RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh.

Both teams play today, with RRC/W-WG visiting Edgerton, and MCC traveling to ML/B-O.

Windom 23, ML/B-O 6 (5 innings)

WINDOM -- Scoring seven or more runs in three separate innings, the Windom Eagles defeated Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin in five innings.

Karissa Borsgard (three runs, three RBIs) and Summer Stevens (three doubles, four RBIs, two runs) each had three hits for Windom, while Malori Paplow (three runs, two RBIs) and Megan Mattson (double, two runs, four RBIs) had two hits each.

Steph Utech fanned seven and walked two in earning a complete-game victory for Windom (8-10).

Macy Svalland led ML/B-O by going 2-for-3 and scoring a run.

Brittany Wenner struck out four and walked five in three innings for the Wolverines.

Windom plays a Southwest Conference doubleheader Thursday at Pipestone.

JCC 9, MCW 6 (8 innings)

WELCOME -- Kate Rentschler struck out six and walked none in a complete-game effort, and the Jackson County Central Huskies scored three runs in the eighth inning to defeat Martin County West.

Shalee Nelson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for JCC (13-3). Megan Bezdicek, Stacey Schuller, Hanna Fransen and Emma Reith each had a single in the eighth inning.

MCW's Sabrina Steen was 4-for-4 with two singles, a double and a triple. She drove in three runs for the Mavericks, who scored six runs in the first two innings combined.

JCC plays a doubleheader at Marshall today.
