Roos, Penaredondo advance to state tennis tournament
REDWOOD FALLS -- With a pair of victories Tuesday afternoon, Worthington's Tim Roos and Danny Penarendondo won the Section 3A boys' tennis doubles tournament to advance to the Class A tournament next week.
Worthington's tandem, which had won a pair of matches last Thursday, defeated Luverne's Matt Kreuch and Diego Federsffield 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 in the semifinals Tuesday and Lac qui Parle Valley's Jack Hansen and Nicolas Ferro 6-7 (7-9), 6-1, 6-2 in the championship match.
"It's fantastic to see two seniors work hard, overcome adversity and earn the right to play at the state tournament in their final year of high school tennis," Worthington head coach Mike Marquardt said. "This is just the second time in Worthington boys' tennis history that we've had individuals advance to the state tournament."
Roos and Penarendondo will play on Thursday, June 5 at 10 a.m., at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Bloomington.
