York, Slaathaug win Wood Duck 5-K road race titles

FULDA -- Slayton's Mark York and Fulda's Tina Slaathaug were the respective male and female winners of the Wood Duck 5-K road race Saturday morning.

York, a cross country runner for Murray County Central, took an early lead in the 42-runner event and stretched the margin over the 3.1 mile distance, finishing 40 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.

York's winning time was 19 minutes and 12 seconds.

Slaathaug dueled with Round Lake's Rachel Wilson as the pair of women runners worked into the top 10 overall early in the race.

Slaathaug eventually pulled away from Wilson with a strong last half mile, finishing an impressive fifth overall with a fine time of 20:39.

Wilson ran the course in 20:56 and finished sixth overall, second among all women.

Worthington's Tim Meyer, a Fulda native, finished second overall with a time of 19:52, while Slayton's Jeff Erickson also broke the 20-minute mark, finishing third with his time of 19:59.

Both Meyer and Erickson moved up progressively during the race, each passing several runners along the route.

Josh Duerr of Fulda finished fourth overall, clocked at 20:17 and Worthington's Aaron Grafing (21:17) was seventh overall and fifth among all males.

Worthington's Allison Jaycox (22:10) and Fulda's Erica Drealan (22:21) were third and fourth among all females, finishing 11th and 12th overall, respectively.
