PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Dragons remain unbeaten with close win at W-WG

WESTBROOK -- Coming down to the final seconds, the Adrian Dragons held on to their 14th consecutive victory.

Adrian had a three-point lead as time was winding down in Monday night's Red Rock Conference girls' basketball game, but Westbrook-Walnut Grove had the ball.

The Chargers had a look from beyond the arc to tie the game, but the shot was off the mark as Adrian won 66-63.

Erica Thier scored a game-high 24 points to lead Adrian, while Karli Meyer had 17 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Sam Lynn scored 10 points to go along with nine assists and five steals, and Katy Slater scored nine points and pulled down seven rebounds.

For W-WG (7-8, 2-7), Audra Schmidt scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Molly Jarmer, who was 3-for-3 from 3-point land, finished with 13 points, two steals and five assists off the bench. Chanel Madson added 12 points for W-WG, which shot 7 of 16 from beyond the arc in the game.

W-WG will host Hills-Beaver Creek tonight, while Adrian squares off against Red Rock Central in a key conference clash.

JACKSON -- Brooke Burmeister scored 17 points and had five rebounds to lead Jackson County Central to a non-conference girls' basketball victory against visiting Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

Ashley Kruse added 14 points and five assists for the Huskies (13-4), who forced 37 Panther turnovers.

Whitney Burmeister scored 11 points, had 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Leslie Handzus had five steals and four assists.

Bridgit Kirsh and Roxy Ryan each scored six points for T-M-B. Alyssa Becker had four points and six rebounds.

The Huskies, who outrebounded T-M-B 33 to 18, will host Marshall Friday.

EDGERTON -- Alyson Drooger had 27 points and nine rebounds, and Racheal Steffl added 11 points and nine rebounds to lead Edgerton to a blowout victory.

Katie Hadler added seven assists, and Hailey Van Kley had three steals for the Flying Dutchmen, who led 27-13 at halftime.

Edgerton (6-5) will host Ellsworth tonight.

LAKE PARK, Iowa -- Anna Brandt scored 21 points and had seven assists for Harris-Lake Park, but Clay Central-Everly was too much in a 12-point victory.

Deni Peters and Logan Hiveley each scored six points for the Wolves (3-12, 2-8), while Lindsay Reese pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Shelby Peters added four rebounds for H-LP.

Jenna Biedenfeld scored 22 points for CCE.

H-LP will travel to face Mountain Lake Christian tonight.

SIBLEY, Iowa -- Jessica Ackerman had 25 points, 12 rebounds and five steals to lead Sibley-Ocheyedan, which overcame a two-point halftime deficit.

Danelle Miedema added 17 points, and Amanda Frick had 11 for S-O, which will host Rock Valley tonight.

LUVERNE -- In a low-scoring game, Southwest Star Concept came out with a victory against Luverne in a boys' basketball contest Monday.

Ben Scheevel scored a game-high 16 points for the Quasars, while William Cranston added 12 points.

Ryan Hoff led Luverne with nine points and six rebounds, while Landon Gacke scored eight points and had seven rebounds.

The Cardinals (2-11) will travel to Southwest Christian tonight, while SSC will travel to Murray County Central Thursday.

Ellsworth 74, R-T-R 61

ELLSWORTH -- Tied at 32 at halftime, the Ellsworth Panthers outscored Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 42-29 in the second half en route to a 13-point non-conference victory.

Casey Schilling (eight rebounds) scored 18 points to lead Ellsworth (10-2), while Tom Nolte added 15 points.

Trevor Gruis scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists and had three blocks, while Adam Van Der Stoep had 11 points and five assists.

Ellsworth will travel to Fulda Thursday.

SLEEPY EYE -- Sleepy Eye Saint Mary's attempted 49 shots from behind the arc against Red Rock Central, but the Falcons were able to withstand the barrage in a nine-point victory.

RRC (4-7) was led by Brian Benedict's 20 points and 13 rebounds. Aaron Furth added 19 points, while Tyler Erickson scored 15 for the Falcons, who were 23-for-30 from the free-throw line.

SESM, which connected on 13 3-pointers, was led by John Cook with 23 points.

RRC will host Edgerton Thursday.

EDGERTON -- Alex Elgersma was perfect.

A senior center, Elgersma went 11-for-11 from the field and scored 27 points to lead the Flying Dutchmen, who led 34-32 at halftime.

Cody Gunnink added 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Alex Heard scored 13 points -- all in the second half.

Elgersma added nine rebounds and two steals.

Pat Kleinjan had five assists for Edgerton, which will travel to face Red Rock Central on Thursday.

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Steven Herrig had 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lead Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin, which pulled away in the second half after taking a one-point lead into the intermission.

Beau Herrig added 14 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, and Cody Adrian scored 12 points.

Isaac Hildebrandt added 11 points for the Wolverines (4-7), who will travel to face Southwest Christian on Thursday.

SHELDON, Iowa -- Four players scored in double figures to lead Sheldon to a victory against Spencer.

Andy Dykstra scored a team-high 23 points to go along with 13 rebounds to lead the Orabs (8-3).

Taylor Zeutenhorst scored 13 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, while Tony Rodger scored 12 points and Ben VanKekerix added 11 to round out the scoring for Sheldon.
