BRIEF: Wiertzema named to All-America team

ORANGE CITY, IOWA -- Kale Wiertzema, a graduate of Hills-Beaver Creek High School and a senior at Northwestern (Iowa) College, recently was named to the NAIA All-America first team.

A 6-foot-3 senior guard, Wiertzema scored in double figures 25 times this season and averaged 19.3 points per game en route to being named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the year.

Wiertzema ranked in the top 10 among GPAC players in free-throw percentage (80), assists (94), 3-pointers made (52), 3-point percentage (40) and steals (42). He finished his career ranked No. 13 in career scoring (1,576), tied for No. 9 in 3-pointers made (158), and No. 10 in assists (376) at Northwestern.
