AMATEUR BASEBALL: Nowotny pitches A's to victory

ADRIAN -- Kevin Nowotny stymied Mountain Lake's hitters in a complete-game effort to lead Adrian's amateur baseball team to a 9-2 victory Wednesday night.

Nowotny allowed two runs -- one earned -- on four hits while walking one and striking out three. He capped the complete-game effort with a three-pitch ninth inning.

Joe Kruger and Matt Gades each delivered two-run singles, and Glen Kruger added an RBI double for the A's, who scored three runs in the top of the first inning.

Cody Kontz went 2-for-3, and Jordon Kontz added an RBI single.

Mountain Lake scored a run in the fourth inning, but Adrian responded with a run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to take a six-run lead.

Adrian (8-7), which extended its winning streak to three games, will host Marshall on Friday.
