VFW BASEBALL: Worthington VFW splits Friday night doubleheader

ALEXANDRIA -- Worthington VFW split a tournament doubleheader in Alexandria Friday, earning a 3-0 victory over Proctor and a 10-0 loss to Alexandria.

In Game 1, Worthington would earn an early lead, putting the team up 1-0 after the first. Worthington would later get two more runs, one each in the bottom of the third and fourth, to give Worthington a 3-0 lead.

Worthington starting pitcher Tristan Sorenson would make sure Proctor would not be able to mount any kind of comeback, shutting down Proctor's offense while fanning six batters and only walking two. Sorenson would earn the complete game win after pitching all seven innings for Worthington.

Sorenson also dominated on the offensive side of the ball, hitting 3-for-3 with two runs. Logan Thuringer went 2-for-3 with teammate Cole Dierks going 1-for-3 with two runs for Worthington.

In Game two, Worthington would hold its own for the first two innings before a slew of errors in the field allowed Alexandria to score five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Alexandria would go on to add five more runs over the next two innings to give themselves a 10-0 win.

Worthington starting pitcher Ryan Lee pitched three innings in the loss, while allowing six hits and striking out three. All the runs scored on Lee were unearned due to five errors by Worthington.
