PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Harris-Lake Park edges Emmetsburg for non-league win

LAKE PARK, Iowa -- Noreen Morrow scored 14 points to lead Harris-Lake Park past Emmetsburg 42-40 in non-conference basketball Monday.

The Wolves improved to 5-2 overall as Mariah Gath added 11 points and Macy Gunderson chipped in 10 more.

Harris-Lake Park won the first two quarters 25-20 before taking a 30-25 lead after 24 minutes. The Wolves held off Emmetsburg's 15-12 fourth-quarter rally to seal the win.

On Friday, Harris-Lake Park travels to play North Union at 6 p.m. in Armstrong, Iowa.

Luverne 43, Ellsworth 30

LUVERNE -- A 25-6 first-half run set the tone as Luverne defeated Ellsworth in a non-conference game Monday.

Kaitlin Wohnoutka (14 points, six steals, four rebounds), McKayla Schilling (11 points, eight rebounds) and Morgan Haugen (10 points) led the Cardinals, who improved to 4-1 overall.

"It was an ugly game, but we did a nice job pressuring Ellsworth, getting up in their face and forcing them to take tough shots," Luverne head coach Corey Nelson said. "Offensively, it wasn't good."

Alexa Huisman (11 points) was the main supplier of offense for the Panthers, who fell to 0-4 overall.

Ellsworth plays at Fulda at 6 p.m. Thursday, while Luverne alsp plays at Fulda at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Martin Luther 56, Southwestern United 53

ROUND LAKE -- Martin Luther outscored Southwestern United 37-31 in the second half to keep the Wildcats (0-5 overall) winless.

Courtney Place led Southwestern United with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Sarah Baumgard contributed 12 more. Kailey Wendland added nine points for the Wildcats. Sonya Peters grabbed seven rebounds and Autumn Hinkeldey chipped in three steals and three assists.

Southwestern United has dropped four of its five games by seven points or less. The Wildcats play at Murray County Central at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Harris-Lake Park 60, Emmetsburg 44

LAKE PARK, Iowa -- An 18-2 third-quarter run gave Harris-Lake Park the momentum it needed to turn back Emmetsburg in a non-conference game Monday.

Leading 29-27 at halftime, the Wolves scored 18 of the next 20 points to grab a 47-29 edge with 8 minutes left.

"We did a nice job of playing defense in the third quarter," Harris-Lake Park head coach Jeff Sohn said. "The 18-2 run was kind of what we needed after playing a sluggish second quarter."

Eli Ihnen, who drained six 3-pointers, led the Wolves (6-0 overall) with 22 points. Tanner Hiveley added 15 points after making all seven of his free throws. Kade Heikens provided eight assists and three steals, while Colin Brons pulled down seven rebounds.

On Friday, Harris-Lake Park travels to play North Union at 7:30 p.m. in Armstrong, Iowa.
