PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Worthington falls to Redwood Valley

REDWOOD FALLS -- Will Dudley and Morgan Traylor both scored 12 points for the Worthington Trojans in a 66-54 loss to the Redwood Valley Cardinals during a Southwest Conference boys' basketball game Friday.

The Cardinals held a 29-25 lead over the Trojans at halftime and pulled away in the second after going on a 12-0 run to open up the half.

"We played solid defense in the first half and were able to make shots too," WHS coach Ron Vorwald said. "But in the second, we struggled with our shooting and gave up too many turnovers. After they went on their run in the second, we just weren't able to claw our way back into the game."

The Trojans turned the ball over 15 times in the game and the Cardinals were able to take advantage of their extra possessions.

"We have got to do a better job of taking care of the ball," Vorwald said. "We turned the ball over way too often tonight and that has to change."

Aside from scoring 12 points each for the Trojans, Dudley picked up six rebounds and Traylor had nine. Jon Vorwald and Will Mulder added 11 points apiece, with Vorwald throwing in six assists and Mulder chipping in four. Brandon Gray rounded out the scoring for Worthington with eight points.

The Cardinals were led by Alex Koster, who had 26 points on the night.

The Trojans (9-5, 4-4) host the Ellsworth Panthers Monday.
