PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles stay perfect in Red Rock Conference

ADRIAN -- Amber Pater scored 16 points to help the Southwest Christian Eagles stay perfect in Red Rock Conference play with a 72-63 win over the Adrian Dragons in a girls' basketball game Friday.

The Eagles had a five-point lead after the first half and outscored the Dragons 36-32 in the second to preserve the win.

Hannah Van Dyke picked up 13 points for Southwest Christian, while Jennifer Schmidt added 14 points. The Eagles shot 8-for-10 from behind the arc on the night.

Rachel Kontz led the Dragons with 24 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 12 points from Courtney Vaske. Jordin Kopplow led the team in rebounds with 13, while also dishing out five assists and picking up seven steals.

The Eagles (17-4, 13-0) travel to Ellsworth Monday, while the Dragons (15-5, 11-2) head to Luverne Monday.

Fulda 61, MCC 56

FULDA -- Sparked by a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double from Rachel Cheadle Friday night, the Fulda Raiders claimed a five-point victory over the Murray County Central Rebels in a Red Rock Conference girls' basketball game.

Sariah Cheadle scored 13 points and dished out five assists for the Raiders, who built about a 10-point lead late in the game after trailing for most of the first half.

Other key contributors for Fulda included Melissa Gehl (six points, six steals and five rebounds), Brittney Hermeling (eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals) and Courtney Tiesler (eight second-half points).

Jenna Ness paced the Rebels with 14 points. Jade Giese (11), Taylor Schreier (nine) and Morgan Behrends (eight) combined to score 28 points for MCC.

Fulda (17-7, 11-4) travels to play Minneota today, while MCC (9-9, 8-6) visits Adrian Thursday.

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Janessa Peters scored 23 points to lead the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines to a six-point victory over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen in a Red Rock Conference girls' basketball game Friday night.

Peters needed just two points to surpass the 1,000-point milestone for her career entering the game and scored a basket within the first minute of play to eclipse the mark.

Rachel Dukes and Mikayla Falk scored 11 and eight points, respectively, for the Wolverines (10-10, 5-7).

Sarah Post netted 14 points to lead the Flying Dutchmen (3-16, 3-11). Tanner Gunnink and Ciara Everett also scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively for Edgerton.

MLA hosts Southwestern United Monday, and Edgerton plays at Minneota Tuesday.

Red Rock Central 27

ELLSWORTH -- Bridget Kramer picked up a game-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds to lead the Ellsworth Panthers past the Red Rock Central Falcons Friday.

The Panthers were able to build an early lead on the back of four 3-pointers by Amber Walkowaik over the first 10 minutes of the half. Ellsworth led 25-17 at halftime and held Red Rock Central to just 10 points in the second.

Walkowaik had 18 points in the game, while Alexa Huisman led the team in rebounds with 11. Huisman also had eight points.

Olivia Bittner led the Falcons with seven points. Melanie Kedl had a team-high eight rebounds, while Rachel Kedl added six rebounds.

The Panthers (10-10, 6-6) host Southwest Christian Monday, while the Falcons (3-18, 2-12) host Cedar Mountain/Comfrey Monday.

LUVERNE -- Kaitlin Wohnoutka scored 20 points and picked up nine steals for the Luverne Cardinals in a win over the Redwood Valley Cardinals Friday.

The Cardinals held a nine point lead at halftime and were able to hold onto the lead for the rest of the game.

McKayla Schilling was second on the team in scoring for Luverne with 10 points and three assists, while Morgan Haugen had five rebounds, six steals and six points.

Victoria Quast led Redwood Valley with 13 points, to go along with nine points by Steph Jensen.

The Cardinals (13-10, 7-4) host Adrian Monday.

Hill-Beaver Creek 44

WESTBROOK -- The Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers picked up 21 steals as a team and shot 7-for-10 from behind the arc on their way to a victory over the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots Friday.

The Chargers led 35-16 after one half with the help of seven steals by Abby Herding. H-BC was able to outscore W-WG 28-23 in the second half, but it was not enough to get the win.

Paige Erickson led the Chargers with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Dayna Comnick picked up 17 points, including three 3-pointers on the night. Herding scored nine points in addition to her seven steals and Kelsi Wahl had five assists.

Paige Leuthold dropped 20 points for the Patriots to go along with nine points by Haley Van Wyhe. Hills-Beaver Creek hit five 3-pointers on the night.

The Chargers (9-11, 7-7) travel to Edgerton Thursday, while the Patriots (6-14, 3-11) host Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Monday.
