PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Huskies top Cardinals

JACKSON - Taylor Christopher scored 23 points Saturday night, leading fourth-seeded Jackson County Central to 70-56 victory over fifth-seeded Luverne in the quarterfinals of the Section 3AA South boys' basketball tournament.

Jon Harmening contributed 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds to help the Huskies (16-9) win their fourth straight game and advance to the tournament's semifinals where they will tangle with top-seeded Fairmont (21-5) at Windom Thursday with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.

Fairmont defeated St. James, 89-71, in its quarterfinal game Saturday.

Austin Hinkeldey (12) Shadrack Wacker (eight) and Darnell Taylor-Breck (seven) combined for 27 JCC points in a well-balanced performance.

Luverne, which finishes its season with a 14-10 record, was paced by the 21-point performance of Matt Arends, who connected on five 3-pointers.

Matt Overgaard and Brett Heronimus each scored eight points for the Cardinals, while Alex Weis pulled down 10 rebounds.

Josh Slieter (seven points), Heronimus (five rebounds) and Arends (three assists) were Luverne's other statistical leaders.

Montevideo 73, T-M-B 62

MONTEVIDEO - Troy Digging and Jordan Thompson scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, to lead third-seeded Montevideo to a 73-62 win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in the Section 3AA North quarterfinals Saturday.

The Thunderhawks (10-14) snapped a nine-game losing skid and advance to the semifinals where they will play Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Granite Falls.

T-M-B, which finished its season with a 7-18 record, was paced by a 26-point performance by Parker Lanoue, who drilled six 3-pointers in the game and also had six rebounds and four assists.

Josh Kirk contributed 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the sixth-seeded Panthers, who trailed by just three points at halftime.
