TROJAN BASEBALL: Trojans fall short against New Ulm

ST. JAMES -- The Worthington Trojan baseball team fell to the New Ulm Eagles 3-1 Friday.

New Ulm got on the board first with a two-run first inning to make it 2-0. Worthington cut the lead to one with a run in the top of the fourth, but New Ulm scored an insurance run in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

Chase Meyer picked up the win for the Eagles, pitching six and two-thirds innings. Daren Soderholm was credited with the loss after giving up two unearned runs in two innings of work. Ryan Lee threw two innings in relief before Aaron Pavelko and Blake Rogers came in to finish off the last two innings.

Tyler Hatterman and Nathan Ray picked up two hits apiece in the game for the Trojans.

Worthington (1-1) travels to Pipestone Area Monday.

Windom 9-7, Marshall 3-6

WINDOM -- The Windom Eagles completed a sweep of the Marshall Tigers with back-to-back wins Friday.

Marshall scored first in the top of the opening frame, but Windom responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 2-1. The Eagles scored three more runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, Windom knocked in another three runs to make it 8-1. Marshall scored a run in the fifth, but Windom answered with a run of its own in the sixth to keep its seven-run edge. The Tigers mustered a run in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough.

Collin Lovell pitched a complete game in Game 1, throwing 12 strikeouts and allowing two earned runs. Marshall's Aaron Mathiowetz was credited with the loss in Game 1.

Brandon Thongvivong led the Eagles at the plate with a 3-for-3 outing to go along with two RBIs. Danny Kneeland and Lovell added two hits and two RBIs apiece in the game.

The Eagles held off the Tigers in Game 2 to grab a 7-6 win and complete the sweep.

Brandon Thongvivong picked up the win for the Eagles in Game 2, pitching two and two-third innings in relief of starter Zach Bartosh.

Andy Pfeffer, Kneeland, Travis Janssen, Jacob Johnson and Sam Huska all had one hit for Windom in the game. Kneeland added two RBIs as well.

Windom is scheduled to take on Worthington in a doubleheader Thursday.

Adrian 1, SWU 0

HERON LAKE -- The Adrian Dragon baseball team held off the Southwestern United Wildcats to claim a one-run victory Friday.

Adrian scored the only run of the game in the second inning to garb the win.

Tony Lynn started for the Dragons going four innings to get credit for the win. Logan Rogers came in to relieve Lynn and pitched the final three innings.

Aaron Fest went seven innings for the Wildcats without allowing an earned run.

Trey Henning had two doubles for Adrian, while Jordan Dingmann, Jacob Diekmann-Bullerman and Tony Sieve all had singles.

Austin Rossow and Isaac Fest had the only hits for Southwestern United.

Adrian (1-3, 1-1) travels to Mountain Lake Area Tuesday, while SWU (1-2, 0-1) takes on Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove today.
