WORTHINGTON -- One day after their first meet of the year, the Worthington Trojan boys' and girls' golf teams were back in action taking on Southwestern United, Southwest Christian and Adrian in a quadrangle at Prairie View Golf Course Friday.

"I feel like we have really played well these last few days," WHS coach Ron Wood said. "Our numbers are where we want them to be and it is only our second meet of the year."

The Trojan boys took first place out of the four teams with a final score of 171 between their top four golfers. The Wildcats took second with a 188, while the Dragons finished third with a 205. In fourth place were the Eagles after shooting a 251.

"We played a good match today on the boys' side," Wood said. "We are coming off a tremendous match from [Thursday] and the 171 is not far off from our average from a season ago."

Will Mulder was the low medalist in the meet with a 40, while Alex Kremer shot a 43. Seth Meier and Jacob Weg both shot 44s to round out the top four for the Trojans.

Clay Salzwedel had the second lowest score at the meet with a 42 to lead the Wildcats, while Ryan Elias picked up the low score for the Dragons (46). Tadd Van't Hof shot a 54 for the Eagles' lowest score.

On the girls' side, Kate Lesnar shot a 40 on the day to lead Worthington to a final score of 184. Adrian hit a 217 to round out the scores from the two complete teams in the girls meet.

"Two days in a row, the girls shot where they needed to be shooting to get the win," Wood said. "Kate and Morgan [Harberts] have been hitting really consistently for us so far. The ladies are off to a really good start this year."

Harberts was the second lowest score at the meet with a 44 for the Trojans, followed by the Dragons' Marissa Veld who hit a 47.

Tyree Murray (49) and Genna Putnam (51) rounded out Worthington's top four scores at the meet, while Katie Wieneke (53), Alexa Kemper (57) and MacKenzie Wagner (60) filled out the scorecard for Adrian.

Kailey Wendland was the only competitor for Southwest United, shooting a 67 on the day.

Worthington (boys 3-1, girls 2-0) is scheduled to host Pipestone Area Monday, while Adrian faces Westbrook-Walnut Grove Monday. Southwest Christian takes on Fulda Tuesday.
