PREP BOYS TENNIS: Luverne tennis team shuts out Pipestone

PIPESTONE -- Four matches were won in straight sets by visiting Luverne on a windy Thursday as the Cardinals defeated host Pipestone Area 7-0 in a high school tennis matchup.

Joey Vajgrt blanked Levi Carstensen 6-0, 6-0 in first singles, and fourth singles teammate Andrew Jelken bested the Arrows' Joe Morgan by the same 6-0, 6-0 score.

In second doubles, Ethan Johnson and Zach Gillette topped Pipestone Area's Bill Smith and Chandler Haag 6-0, 6-0, and the third doubles team of Hunter Robinson and Erik Wohnoutka did the same against Elijah Everson and Tysen Woelber.

At second singles, Jonny Vajgrt topped Trace Lueck 6-0, 6-1, and at third singles Dustin Deutsch beat Jarod Carlson 6-4, 6-0.

Luverne's first doubles team of Scott Nelson and Blake Ziegler topped Pipestone Area's Nathan Baatz and Jarod Schiebout 6-3, 6-2.

LHS coach Greg Antoine said the windy day forced competitors to remain focused.

The Cardinals, 9-0 on the season, travel to Montevideo on Monday and host Sioux Falls Lincoln on Tuesday.
