Amateur Baseball: Lakers knock off Buttermakers

HERON LAKE -- Tony Jorgensen smacked a two-run double, and Ike Rogers went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI doubles to help spark the Heron Lake Lakers to a season-opening 8-6 victory over the Hadley Buttermakers in an amateur baseball game Sunday afternoon at Laker Field.

Eric Milbrath also had two hits for the Lakers, who snapped a 6-6 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kyle Elder, Lon Eichenberger, Alex Meyer and Luke Henkels added a base hit apiece for Heron Lake.

Meyer (three strikeouts, four walks) pitched the first four innings for the Lakers, while Matt Franks (four strikeouts, no walks) hurled the final five frames and earned the win on the mound.

Zach Bruns (four strikeouts, three walks) and Jamie Boelter (six strikeouts, one walk) both tossed four innings for Hadley.

Nick Bruning went 3-for-4 with a towering two-run home run and an RBI single to pace the Buttermakers at the plate. Joe Larson and Max Zwart (two RBIs) ripped two hits apiece, while Boelter, Matt Ackerman and Alex Petersen each collected one hit for Hadley.

Heron Lake (1-0) travels to play Lamberton Wednesday night.
