Prep Softball: JCC's Carlson no-hits Cards

JACKSON --Moira Carlson threw a no-hitter and Marita Rasche homered in the second game to help Jackson County Central complete a sweep of Luverne in a Southwest Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday. The Huskies won on scores of 7-2 and 11-0.

Carlson walked one and struck out four in keeping the Cardinals in check. Brittany Woodke hit a double and drove in two runs.

Rasche went 2-for-2 in the first game and teammates Brooke Klontz, Woodke and Lydia Brandt also had a pair of hits. Klontz was the winning pitcher, going the distance on a three-hitter.

EDGERTON - In a well-played defensive game with only one error in the entire contest, Murray County Central earned a two-run Red Rock Conference victory over Edgerton/Southwest Christian.

An outstanding running catch by MCC centerfielder Jade Giese prevented the Flying Dutchmen from scoring more than one run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

At the plate, Kristi Bose was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the Rebels and Sophie Nepp delivered a solo home run to give MCC a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.

Ashley Clarke, who was 2-for-3 with her bat, pitched a complete game for the Rebels, striking out two, walking four and yielding five hits.

Tianna Top went the distance in the circle for E/SWC, notching nine strikeouts, while walking just two batters. MCC had seven hits.

Tanner Gunnink slugged a solo home run for the Dutchmen in the fourth inning and Top was 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI.

MCC (6-2, 5-1) plays at Southwestern United Thursday, while E/SWC (5-2, 4-2) travels to Ellsworth to tangle with Adrian.

ELLSWORTH --Adrian Area swept Red Rock Central 11-3 and 23-1 as Rachel Kontz went the distance in both games.

Kontz went 4-for-4 at the plate in the first game with a home run. Autumn Engelkes chipped in with three doubles, and Bailey Grussing and Amy Bents both added two hits for the winners.

Angie Hannemann had four hits for RRC.

In the second game, Engelkes had four more hits and teammates Courtney Vaske, Heidi Nolte and Bents added two each.

Adrian Area is 8-4 on the season.
