Baseball: SWU outplays T-M-B

MILROY -- Aaron Fest pitched six sharp innings, and the 10th-seeded Southwestern United Wildcats made things happen by putting the ball in play Thursday afternoon to claim a 14-5 victory over the seventh-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers in the opening round of the Section 3A South high school baseball tournament.

SWU (4-13) advances to play second-seeded Wabasso Saturday in Milroy. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Fest struck out six batters and allowed five runs on nine hits and no walks. Dakota Schmid struck out three batters in a scoreless seventh inning for the Wildcats.

SWU scored in five different innings, highlighted by a five-run third frame. The Wildcats smacked a total of 10 hits and were aided by 10 T-M-B errors.

Mark Ferguson and Jacob Getzel both had two hits for the Wildcats. Getzel and Trey Cranston each drove in two runs.

Stuart Schumacher reached base four times and scored four runs for SWU, while Erik Jass, Jacob Post, Austin Rossow, Justin Jass and Isaac Fest all contributed by putting the ball in play and reaching base via a hit or an error.

Parker Lanoue pitched into the sixth inning for T-M-B. He was also 3-for-3 at the plate, while Austin Gleis, Jordan Lanoue and Brian Fultz each had two hits for the Panthers.
