VFW Baseball: Luverne dominates Worthington

LUVERNE -- The Worthington VFW baseball team fell to Luverne 16-5 in five innings Monday.

After Worthington jumped out to a 1-0 after the top of the first inning, Luverne exploded for seven runs of its own to take a 7-1 lead.

Worthington fought back with a three run top of the second, but Luverne was able to push across five runs in the bottom of the inning to increase its lead to eight.

In the last three innings, Luverne outscored Worthington 4-1 on the way to the win.

Nate Braaksma took the loss for Worthington, giving up seven runs on three hits while walking seven batters.

Trevor Wietzema led the Worthington offense with a two-run home run and a steal on the day.

Worthington (7-3, 2-1) travels to Sacred Heart Thursday.
