Girls fast-pitch: Storm beat Mountain Lake twice

WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington 18U Storm defeated Mountain Lake 17-2 and 6-1 during a pair of fast-pitch softball games Friday.

The Storm opened Game 1 with five runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-0 lead. Mountain Lake scored a run of its own in the second, but Worthington continued to pile on the runs, scoring another six runs in the inning to take an 11-1 lead. The Storm ended the game early after outscoring Mountain Lake 6-1 in the third.

Katie Rogers took the win for Worthington, allowing one hit and striking out one batter. Jenny Mejerus was 2-for-3 for the Storm with a triple to lead the offense.

Worthington jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning in Game 2, but Mountain Lake tied the game at one with a run in the top of the second. But the Storm scored another run in the second and picked up their third run of the game in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Worthington scored three more runs over the next two innings to secure the win.

Allie Bruns struck out five batters in Game 2 on her way to recording the win. Mejerus was 2-for-2 at the plate with another triple.

The Storm travel to Sleepy Eye on Tuesday.
