College basketball: Minnesota West men beaten by Iowa Lakes

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa -- Iowa Lakes Community College advanced to 4-1 on the young college men’s basketball season Tuesday night with a 94-71 win over visiting Minnesota West.

The Lakers led 51-35 at halftime.

Bluejays head coach Aaron Poor Bear said his team set the desired tone with plenty of fast-breaking and fast-paced offense, but Iowa Lakes was up to the task.

“I think we disrupted what they did early, but they adjusted to our defense,” he said.

Angel Arroyo scored 16 points to lead Minnesota West. Alex Brown added 12 points and Alex Preston had 10.

Iowa Lakes passed the ball well. The Bluejays tried to take away the middle, but the Lakers responded by hitting their outside shots.

Minnesota West (0-3) will be shorter than most opposing teams this year. On Tuesday, Poor Bear said, the Jays held their own in the rebounding department but still gave up too many offensive rebounds.

“We’re still adjusting to learning how to run an offense, and defensively we’re learning where our rotations come from,” said the coach.
