Amateur baseball: Bulls advance in state tournament
SHAKOPEE -- The Jackson Bulls defeated 2017 state tournament runnerup Lake Henry 3-2 in the 2018 state amateur baseball tourney on Saturday, advancing to face Sobieski at 11 a.m. on Sunday in Shakopee.
The Windom Pirates lost to Maple Lake 5-0 last weekend and were eliminated from the tournament.
Ryan Rasche and Tyler Tennyson combined to hold the Lakers to two runs, with Rasche going 3.2 innings and Tennyson holding them scoreless through 5.1 innings while allowing only one hit.
Easton Bahr and Andy Wolf had three hits apiece for Jackson.
Windom was held to three hits by Maple Lake. Luke Gilbertson was 2-for-3 for the Pirates. Collin Lovell started on the mound for Windom, going five innings, four runs but just two earned.
In another state opener last weekend, St. Patrick beat Lamberton 4-3.
Hadley, the Region 13 champion, will begin its part in the state tournament on Saturday with a 5 p.m. game at Shakopee against Buckman, which defeated Waconia 5-1 in its opener.
